A stop sign means you must bring your vehicle to a complete stop before you proceed. It is a red octagonal regulatory sign and one of the most important signs on South African roads and in the K53 learners test.
What does a stop sign mean?
You must stop completely at the stop line, or before the intersection if there is no line. A rolling stop, where you slow down but do not fully stop, is a traffic offence.
What must you do at a stop sign?
- Come to a complete stop at the line.
- Give way to traffic already in or approaching the intersection, and to pedestrians.
- Move off only when the way is clear and it is safe.
